How to Import

How to bring tones you downloaded from TONE3000 into NAM FX, and keep them in sync across devices. Items marked 2.0 need NAM FX 2.0 or later.

1. Get a tone from TONE3000

  1. Open a tone page from Best Tones or TONE3000. The app’s TONES › TONE3000 ↗ goes to the same place.
  2. Download the A2 files (A2-Full · A2-Lite) — NAM FX runs A2 most efficiently. Several files at once arrive as a ZIP.
  3. Check the license. Tones belong to their creators, and some are non-commercial (NC).

2. Bring it into NAM FX — Mac

  • 2.0 In TONES › Import Files or Folders…, pick a folder and everything in it, subfolders included, comes in at once. Safari unzips downloads for you, so pick the tone folder as it is — its name (the TONE3000 tone title) becomes the name in the list.
  • 2.0 Double-click a .nam in Finder, or choose Open With › NAM FX: it comes in and the tone list opens.
  • Every version: TONES › Import from Files… to pick files.

3. Bring it into NAM FX — iPhone · iPad

  • 2.0 Safari saves downloads to iCloud Drive › Downloads. Tap a ZIP in Files to unzip it, then pick the folder in TONES › Import Files or Folders… — subfolders come in too.
  • 2.0 Or tap the .nam in Files and share it to NAM FX.
  • Every version: TONES › Import from Files…
  • 2.0 Tones you added on your Mac arrive here through iCloud — see 5.

4. Where it goes

2.0 The tone list sorts files into AMP + CAB · AMP HEAD · PEDAL · IR by the type the file declares (gear_type inside the .nam). Any NAM that isn’t an amp (drives, boosts, preamps, reverbs…) goes to PEDAL. Files that declare no type at all go to OTHER — nothing is guessed. Several captures of the same gear by the same creator share one row; pick among them with the block’s MODEL › Change. Star tones with ★ and use the ★ next to search to show favorites only.

5. Keep devices in sync (iCloud)

  • 2.0 Tones you add go up to iCloud Drive › NAM FX › Tones. Your other devices on the same Apple ID pull them when the app starts, when it comes back to the front, or when you press Check now. Files you drop into that folder reach every device too.
  • Through a folder import, Open With or iCloud, the same file comes in only once (it is recognised by its content). Importing the same single file twice makes two copies.
  • Deleting in the app removes a tone on that device only. To remove it everywhere, delete the file in iCloud Drive.
  • Photos you give a tone sync along with it.

If a tone doesn’t appear

  • An iCloud file may still be downloading. Press Check now a little later.
  • WAV files over 2 MB aren’t taken as IRs.
  • Open links from the app — the AUv3 plug-in can’t open a browser.
